Santosha means contentment in Sanskrit, and is the
perfect word to sum up what yoga is all about. We
are commited to spreading the gifts of yoga.
Practicing yoga is
wonderful way to achieve physical and emotional
health, relaxation, satisfaction and general
contentment though all of lifes' experiences.
Lindsey & Shira (Santosha Yoga of Taos co-founders)
met in their Yoga Teacher Training program in San
Francisco in 2003 and have been friends ever since.
They have spent many, many hours practicing and
teaching yoga together. Both feel lucky to have gotten
most of their teaching experience in San Francisco, a
hub for yoga and alternative health. Their lives
took different turns, but coincidentally brought them
both to Taos, where their passion for yoga inspired
them
to take action and make their dream of opening a yoga
studio a reality. Shira and Lindsey are serious in
their dedication to yoga. They are committed to
educating their students in a way that is fun,
affordable, satisfying and safe.
Shira Johnson got hooked on yoga 7 years ago doing a
video at home! She couldn't help but notice how
amazing it made her feel, so her curiosity led her to
study more. She has completed two Yoga Teacher
Trainings over the last 5 years, and has continued
studying with advanced teachers (including Manouso
Manos, Andrey Lappa, Jason Moring, Kofi Busia,
Ramanand Patel, Karl Erb, Tony Briggs, Lisa Jo
Landsberg). Most of Shira's training has been in
the Iyengar method and in Universal Yoga. Shira has also studied movement, anatomy, and the mind-body connection in other genres, such as studying Shiatsu Massage at the San Francisco School of Massage, and beginning a graduate school program in Somatic Psychology at the California Institutue of Integral Studies. Shira feels
that nothing has transformed her life in a more
positive
way than practicing yoga. It has helped her fight
depression, experience a level of physical fitness
unmatched by any other physical exercise, relief to
chronic back pain, and overall gives her life a
sense of contentment and strength. Her dream is to
spread
this education to increase health and happiness in
her community and beyond.
Lindsey Schreiber has been practicing yoga for the
last 10 years and teaching yoga since 2003. She is
passionate about the power of yoga to transform the
body, train the mind, and cultivate awareness and
equanimity. It has long been a dream of hers to
open a studio and make yoga instruction available to
everyone in her community. Lindsey continues to study
with
Senior teachers whenever possible. She loves and
studies all kinds of asana practices: Iyengar Yoga,
Ashtanga Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga, Universal Freestyle
Yoga, and Power Yoga. Lindsey has a dedicated personal
practice and has studied with the following
instructors: Kofi Busia, Andrey Lappa, Manouso
Manos, Jason Moring, Tony Briggs, Ramanand Patel,
Baron Baptiste, Rolf Gates, Beryl Bender Birch,
Anna Forest, John Friend, and Rusty Wells. Lindsey has also completed training in the study of Ayurveda, the ancient art of traditional Indian Medicine.
