    Class Descriptions

Anusara Inspired:
Influenced by the teachings of John Friend, our Anusara Inspired classes blend a spiritual context with the Universal Principles of Alignment. The body moves into its optimal muscular, skeletal, and energetic blueprint and the heart is gracefully awakened and celebrated.

Universal Yoga:
A unique practice based on the teachings of Ukrainian yoga master Andrey Lappa, Universal Yoga attempts to balance energy of the body and mind through physical movement, breathing exercises and meditation. Andrey's style encourages and utilizes techniques from many different yoga backgrounds, thus the name "Universal Yoga". †Yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, and Universal Yoga is a blend, a union, of many different traditions and techniques. †Influenced greatly by Buddhist philosophy and the teachings of many great yogis including Patabi Jois & B.K.S. Iyengar. Universal Yoga is a mixture of flow & static poses, a balanced blend of strenuous work and relaxing reflection.

Iyengar Style:
Based on the teachings of B.K.S Iyengar, this style of yoga is suitable for all. †Concentrating greatly on correct and precise alignment, practitioners gain a better understanding of each pose, allowing them to learn and practice yoga in a way that is safe and supportive for the body. †This can prevent injuries, and be an effective way to rehabilitating existing injuries or treat other ailments, cleansing the body and building strength and endurance. †The use of props, such as wooden blocks, belts, blankets & bolsters, helps the practitioner to achieve perfection in any asana. A regular practice of this type of Yoga integrates the body, mind and emotions, enhancing a sense of health and wellbeing.

Flow:
These classes are dynamic and energetic, connecting breath to movement. This class will teach the practitioner to build skills into flowing sequences that help build heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and concentration. Students will learn to refine postures and move beyond the limitations of the body and mind.

Restorative:
This class will leave the student relaxed and renewed, reaping the benefits of active relaxation and meditation. Restoratives are meditative poses in which the body is supported with props and held for extended periods of time. They body is allowed to open gently while the mind is quieted and focused on the breath. Both soothing and regenerating, restorative poses help bring balance to our daily lives.

Prenatal:
This gentle class is designed for the unique needs of the pregnant woman, reducing the aches and pains that accompany pregnancy, in a nurturing and supportive environment. We will focus on building strength and endurance, creating space for your baby, special breathing techniques, opening the shoulders and hips, and preparing the body for birth.

All Levels Open/Hatha:
Increase flexibility of body & mind, build physical & emotional strength, increase energy & concentration, using classical yoga postures and working with the breath.

Gentle Yoga:
Incorporates asana into a slow, meditative, calm practice. Classes are designed to enhance well-being, increase flexibility, & gradually build strength. Perfect for beginners or advanced students to welcome soft openings and mind-body awareness. Melt away obstacles & regain a sense of peace in this safe practice environment

Mom and Baby:
A 75-minute yoga class designed to get the postpartum mother back in shape while bonding with her new baby. For the mother, the class focuses on needs such as regaining alignment, toning the pelvic floor and re-establishing core strength, giving her a sense of physical fitness and well-being. †The babies participate with mothers throughout the class, being integrated into the practice and enjoying age-appropriate stimulation exercises.
Babies age 4 weeks through crawling are welcome. (Fathers are welcome too!)

Power Flow Yoga:
Power Flow Yoga works with breath, movement, core strength, and flow connecting each movement in a fluid dance to increase the core body heat preparing the muscles, tendons, and ligaments for further strengthening and stretch. The practioner is challenged to find their own power of meditative movement within their own capabilities.

Skier’s Yoga:
This class is specifically designed for skiers, incorporating counter movements to balance out a skier’s body. We will work on increasing flexibility to prevent injury and building strength to increase balance and stamina. Our skier’s yoga class will help you relieve the strains of long days on the hill, and steady the mind and breath for equilibrium.

Yin Yoga:
Yin Yoga is a deeply meditative practice of holding specific poses for an extended period of time with all muscles in a relaxed state & with the focus on the breath as a pathway to release tension in the ligaments & tendons around the joints, help to prevent injury to connective tissues & instill a deep sense of calm & well being.
